Inside out is a musical instrument that aims to create a higher sense of intimacy in public spaces. By placing the instrument in city squares, members of the public can begin to play whilst others have the option to listen in with the earpieces.
The strings of this instrument are encased within the body hence inverting the common construction methods of a stringed instrument. When played, sound resonates within this chamber and passes down the tubes to the potential listeners.
Music is often encased in a pod of a different kind that further alienates the public; regularly people can be found closing themselves off from the world using their headphones. Here, however, people would be invited to share with a select group.
